WILENCOTE RATES DOWN BUT STILL SATISFACTORY by Barbara Scott
AN EVEN line of good meaty bulls sold at highly satisfactory levels at the Wilencote Poll Hereford sale on the property at Ngatapa yesterday.
The 39 lots sold for an average of $4,230, just under $500 lower than last year's figure, a remarkable result in light of the current beef climate.
Welcoming buyers to the stud before the sale, principal Peter Humphreys said it had been a testing time to bring bulls out without extra feed through last winter. But the bulls had bounced back and althought they might be a little lighter, he was confident they would move well with any new owners.
Top price of the sale was $6,500 given by Otara Station which snapped up several of the entries. It was given for a son of a sire acquired by the same buyer at the Wilencote 2002 sale. Others went to stations around the district with some interest from Wairoa.

A feature of the sale was the number of return buyers who are among the gallery on regular occasions at Wilencote's annual sales and who were still prepared to pay good money for top selections at this years fixture.
