PLEASING RESULTS FROM WILENCOTE STUD OFFERINGS
by Barbara Scott
LINE-UP of 42 sound meaty bulls sold at satisfactory levels at Peter and Susie Humphreys Wilencote Polled Hereford stud on the property at Ngatapa yesterday.
Average price over the 42 lots was $4,719, down by $1,521 on last year's figure, but spread over a dozen more bulls, it was considered a highly pleasing result.
Top price was $7,000 shared by two vendors. Davis Berchann outlaid this sum to secure two sons of Okahu Titanic, bought at the 1999 Beef Expo for $21,000 in partnership with the Reeves family of Mokairau Polled Herefords. Both lots were high serving capacity sires.
Otara Station also paid $7,000 for a bull by Koanui

Wisconsin R136, bought by Wilencote at the 1998 National Bull Sale.
Many of the buyers were return purchasers and with the greater number to select from there was something to suit all pockets. Mr Humphreys said the bulls and their figures would speak for themselves and he announced that a Koanui sire had been acquired last week which should "add more strength to where we are going".
IN BRIEF
The average sale was $4700, with 30 Bulls making from $4000 - $7000 and the remainder going for between $2500 - $4000.
